About The Designs
Have you ever seen the funky Peace Alien designs on a tie dye shirt and wondered what they were about? Or what they meant?
Hey! Its Alexis here, founder of Peace Alien, and I am here to talk about my first two designs.
With the original logo, I wish I had some fantastic story about how it came to creation, but it is not much beyond what you would ponder. Being called weird or different has always been received as a compliment compliment to me. What better way to represent that visually than extraterrestrial life? “Ziggy” the alien is a representation of the weird in all of us and he promotes peace by throwing up friendly deuces.
On the same topic of individuality and identity, came the chameleon design. Which you guys, the #alienarmy, named “Ferb”! Here are the original sketches from my sketchbook when this design was in the works. I was finished but the chameleon needed something more so it was not just a chameleon, in the same way the alien is not just an alien.
The crown was the cherry on top that this design needed! Thus was born the royal chameleon. Why a 3 pointed crown? This is a symbol my favorite artist, Jean Michel Basquiat, repeatedly used in many of his paintings as a stamp of his legacy, his signature, and representation of his ambition to become a great artist.
Basquiat was a famous neo-expressionist painter in the 80’s, but led a short career when he passed away at the age of 27. I fell in love with his work when saw his exhibit at the High Museum in Atlanta my junior year of high school. His work inspires me to this day and I had to incorporate it into my brand!
Thanks for tuning in #Alienarmy!
